The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine confirmed the detention of the former head of the SBU department for the Kharkiv region, Roman Dudin, who was fired in May by decree of President Volodymyr Zelensky. On the eve of the Ukrainian media reported that Dudin was detained on suspicion of treason.

The supervisory authority said that “on February 24, the suspect, on his own initiative, began to work to the detriment of the defense capability and state security of Ukraine.” In particular, Dudin “did not ensure the fulfillment of the functions and tasks assigned to the SBU”, and also committed some “multi-stage actions”, the purpose of which was to remove the head of the Kharkiv regional military administration from work.

The prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the suspect sabotaged the execution of military orders, did not organize the counterintelligence and countersabotage work of his department, and did not participate in the defense of Kharkov at all.

In May, after his dismissal, Dudin stated that the reason for his dismissal was allegedly the intrigues of the said head of the region, whom he himself accused of “fraud.”
