The Prosecutor General’s Office will check the footage of the alleged murder of a member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia initiated an inspection of photographic and video materials that allegedly contain scenes of the murder of an allegedly Ukrainian soldier, reported press service of the supervisory authority.

“In the course of monitoring the Internet, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation discovered photographic and video materials containing, presumably, scenes of the murder of an allegedly Ukrainian serviceman. <...> In order to assess the reliability of these materials and make an appropriate decision, they were sent to the investigating authorities to organize an audit,” the message says.

As the press service added, the progress and results of the check were put under control by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that the PMC fighters were not involved in the incident. “I have already said that neither Wagner PMC nor the place of Bakhmut is identified on the video. [Артемовск]”, – commented He.

A day earlier, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov declaredthat the authenticity of the footage, which allegedly depicts the beheading of a Ukrainian soldier, needs to be verified. When, where and by whom this video was filmed is not clear.

In November 2022, two videos appeared on the Internet, which allegedly depicted the execution of Russian prisoners of war by soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces. The Russian Defense Ministry called these shots a confirmation of the “knuckle-blowing essence of the current Kyiv regime.” The department stressed that this case is not the first war crime committed against Russian prisoners of war. At the UN urged to investigate what happened.
