The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized the activities of the Andrei Sakharov Foundation as undesirable in Russia, reported on the website of the department.
“Based on the results of the study of the materials received, on January 23, 2023, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation decided to recognize the activities of the foreign non-governmental organization The Andrei Sakharov Foundation (“Andrei Sakharov Foundation”), USA, as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the report says.
As follows from the statement, the activity of this organization “poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the Russian Federation.” Information about the step taken was sent to the Ministry of Justice of Russia “for inclusion in the list of foreign and international non-governmental organizations whose activities are recognized as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation, and for publication.”
On the organization’s website saidthat the foundation seeks to preserve the legacy of the Soviet physicist, one of the creators of the first Soviet hydrogen bomb, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1975, dissident and human rights activist Andrei Sakharov.
