MAINTENANCE – The deputy Les Républicains des Alpes-Maritimes sees in the granting of such a right a danger of fragmentation of the nation.
LE FIGARO. – The Renaissance deputy Sacha Houlié has tabled a bill aimed at granting the right to vote to non-European foreigners in municipal elections. What do you think?
Eric CIOTTI.- Basically, I’m against it. Voting is inherently linked to nationality. The only exception to this principle is the European Union, because we belong to a community of destinies and civilizations. On the form, it is rather a political provocation linked to the existing tensions within the majority. Since 2017, we can clearly see that macronie has been advancing without any territorial or even ideological roots. It’s a bit like a Spanish inn: you can find everything and its opposite. And in the end, it is often helplessness that triumphs. Obviously, by this provocation this current wants to be heard, even if it means fracturing the nation a little more, because such a decision would not be without consequences.
Which would you dread?
Such a right to vote in municipal elections would lead to the election…
