On the night of August 7, the armed forces of Ukraine fired at the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, as a result of which a fire started, reported in the pro-Russian administration of Energodar, which is located in the Russian-controlled part of the region.
“Tonight, the armed formations of Ukraine struck with the use of a 220 mm Uragan MLRS rocket. When approaching the power units, the rocket managed to open up and release fragmentation submunitions. The area of the dry storage of spent nuclear fuel and the post of automated control of the radiation situation turned out to be in the affected area, ”the message says.
The city administration noted that from the site of the fall of fragmentation submunitions and the rocket engine itself to the operating power unit, no more than 400 m.
August 5 Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reportedthat as a result of the shelling of the territory of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in Energodar by Ukrainian troops, part of the equipment of the third power unit was de-energized.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the takeover of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and its satellite city Energodar on February 28, on the fourth day after the start of the special operation on the territory of Ukraine. Local authorities have repeatedly reported about strikes on the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.
