For Bertrand Thamin, this post-covid return to school, also affected by rising prices, is decisive: “It has always been complicated to bring spectators to the theater, it was a fight, but here it is a hard fight, especially since there is a malaise linked to inflation“. However, he remains optimistic, believing that it is still too early to judge the current state of the number of reservations just a few days before the start of the school year, and that after a two-year break, “people want theater and live shows and that’s reassuring“.

Among the initiatives proposed by private theaters is therefore that of advancing the time of performances. Bertrand Thamin thinks this solution could prove effective: “In Paris, we raise the curtain too late, there are quite a few theaters now that bring the curtain closer to 7 or 8 p.m.“.
For him, this simple change of schedule will encourage non-Parisians from Ile-de-France to take advantage more easily of the live shows offered by the capital: “We noticed that we completely cut ourselves off from all the suburban clientele; when we raise the curtain at 9 p.m. and finish at 11 p.m., people don’t want to find themselves on trains at that time“. Without forgetting to specify:Small venues will continue to give performances at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.“. Good news: Paris will remain the city of light.
