The primate of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Metropolitan Onufry of Kiev and All Ukraine, is not included in the lists of the Ukrainian authorities, according to which they are allowed to enter the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. This was announced on Monday, August 21, by the head of the information and educational department of the UOC, Metropolitan Kliment.
According to the clergyman, only clergy with the rank of monks are included in these lists. The seminarians and other novices of the monastery were not brought there – they can no longer leave the territory of the Lavra, because they will not be allowed back.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously said that Moscow is demanding that the blockade of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra be lifted and stop bullying the people in it. The Foreign Ministry called on “all people of good will and those who are convinced of the need to defend people’s right to freedom of religion, to prevent a blatant act of violence against the monks and believers of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.”
The statement was made after Metropolitan Pavel (Lebed), the vicegerent of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, diagnosed with acute myocardial infarction. He was urgently operated on. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities did not stop the criminal case against the clergyman.
