The price of electricity in France rose by 1000% and set a new record

According to the publication, for the same period last year, the cost of electricity in France was only 85 euros per MW / h. The reason for such a sharp rise in prices was the reduction in the volume of gas supplied to Europe from Russia against the backdrop of a special military operation in Ukraine and sanctions, as well as the shutdown of several nuclear reactors due to corrosion. It is clarified that now only 24 of the 56 nuclear reactors of the EDF energy company are operating in the country, which reduces electricity generation and increases the price of gas.
Germany also faced a similar problem, where electricity futures for the year ahead used to cost around 85 euros per MWh, while now prices have also broken a record, exceeding 920 euros per MWh.
The high price of gas in Europe is due to the threat of a crisis in the supply of this energy resource. Last week “Gazprom” announced that on August 31 it would stop the operation of the last Nord Stream gas compressor turbine for scheduled work, in the absence of technical malfunctions, pumping would be resumed on September 2 to the current 20% of the planned volume of 167 million cubic meters. m per day, that is, no more than 33 million cubic meters will flow through the pipeline. m of gas every day. Against the backdrop of this news, stock prices for gas began to rise. After a slight drop to $3,000 per thousand cubic meters, the price of the nearest, September, futures on the TTF hub today exceeded $3,500 per thousand cubic meters for the first time since March 8, when the record was set – the price of the April futures approached $3,900.
