President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov and his colleague from Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held negotiations on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, following which the parties agreed to cease fire and withdraw additional forces from the border of the two republics.

“The leaders of the two countries agreed to instruct the relevant structures to cease fire and withdraw forces and assets from the line of contact,” the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan said in a statement.

In addition, the parties also agreed to speed up the work of the Intergovernmental Commission of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border, they added.

The situation on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated again on the morning of September 16, armed clashes are taking place along the entire perimeter. The parties accuse each other of violating the ceasefire agreements.

According to Kyrgyzstan, the Tajik side began shelling the border guards and positions of the Kyrgyz side in the areas of Eki-Tash, Chir-Dobo and Kum-Mazar and Orto-Boz, using mortars, tanks and other armored vehicles. Bishkek later said that Tajikistan was trying to seize the territory of the republic. Tajikistan, in turn, accuses Bishkek of attacking the Dushanbe border outpost with heavy weapons.

Previously in Dushanbe declared, which had already twice offered a unilateral ceasefire, but the military personnel of Kyrgyzstan ignored this. At the same time, Bishkek, as report RIA Novosti itself calls on Tajikistan for a ceasefire.
