President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) announced the start of procedures for granting Belarus membership in the organization. Iran also signed a memorandum of accession to the SCO. Bahrain, Maldives, Kuwait, UAE, Egypt, Qatar and Myanmar will receive dialogue partner status.

In early August, it was reported that ten more states were going to join the SCO, including the UAE, which asked to be granted the status of a member of the organization, bypassing bureaucratic procedures. Following the results of the Samarkand summit, the list of member countries will be replenished with six names.

Today, September 16, the leaders of India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan, Russia, as well as Tajikistan and Pakistan met within the framework of the summit in narrow format in Samarkand. After this meeting, the summit began in an expanded format. As a result of the meeting, the SCO Samarkand Declaration will be signed.

The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization started yesterday, September 15. On the first day, the Russian President met with the leaders of five states, and also held talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh and the PRC Chairman and Jinping in the format of trilateral talks.
