President of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Arayik Harutyunyan is resigning. About it announced Harutyunyan himself on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
“This is a decision based on my analysis of the data, done solely by me,” he wrote.
According to him, the decision was made two days ago, taking into account “contacts of recent weeks with all internal and external stakeholders and the general public.” Harutyunyan’s powers will end on September 1. Who will take over his position is still unknown.
In addition, Gurgen Nersisyan was dismissed from the post of state minister. Secretary of the Security Council Samvel Shahramanyan was appointed State Minister. “When choosing Samvel Shahramanyan, I took into account his principles, flexibility, experience in various positions and accumulated knowledge, which are directly related to both national security and public administration,” Harutyunyan specified.
Harutyunyan became the President of the Republic in May 2020. Prior to that, he served as Prime Minister of the NKR from 2007 to 2017, from 2017 to 2018 – Minister of State of the NKR. In 1992, Harutyunyan joined the NKR Self-Defense Forces and took part in the battles during the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
