The BRICS summit in South Africa will be held in person. About it informed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Twitter.
“We will have a face-to-face BRICS summit <...> It will not be virtual,” said the President of the Republic. He also noted that the organization had not held face-to-face summits for three years.
The BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) will be held in South Africa from 22 to 24 August. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit, despite being invited to the summit, is complicated by a March 17 arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin would make a decision on a trip to the summit “closer to the point”, and stressed that Russia “in any case will actively participate” in the work of the BRICS, because he considers “this is a very important association, relevance which is constantly rising.
In addition, the Kremlin spokesman said that the decisions of the ICC have no legal force. Three days after the issuance of the warrant, the Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against ICC prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan, as well as judges Tomoko Akane, Rosario Salvatore Aitala and Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez under Part 2 of Art. 301, part 1 of Art. 30, part 2, art. 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (knowingly unlawful detention, preparation for an attack on a representative of a foreign state enjoying international protection).
