The President of Poland called for the dismantling of Nord Stream 2

Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline should be dismantled.
Duda noted that the construction of the gas pipeline began after the entry of Crimea into Russia. According to him, despite the condemnation of the annexation of the peninsula, the European authorities continued to “appease” the Kremlin in order to continue doing business.
Nord Stream 2 was ready for launch as early as September 2021. However, in February 2022, after Russia recognized the independence of the LPR and DPR, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suspended the certification of the gas pipeline.
In June “Gazprom» reduced supplies via Nord Stream by up to 40% as the German Siemens did not return the turbine in time after repair in Canada due to sanctions. And at the end of July, gas pumping dropped to 20% of the maximum level. Against this background, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed launching Nord Stream 2 to increase Russian gas supplies to Europe.
In Germany, they considered that the operation of Nord Stream 2 would mean that Russia managed to overcome the sanctions. Vice-Chancellor and Economics Minister Robert Habeck said that the launch of the gas pipeline would be “a defeat for Germany and Europe.”
Klaus Ernst, head of the Bundestag Committee on Energy and Climate, has a different opinion. According to him, it makes no difference through which pipe the gas is delivered, since “it remains Russian anyway.”
Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder also spoke about the fate of the gas pipeline. He called the launch of Nord Stream 2 the easiest solution to the problem of gas shortages in Germany. Schroeder also spoke about the “enormous consequences” of the suspension of gas pipeline certification, for which the German authorities need to be prepared.
