Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda supported the installation of air defense (AD) systems on the Polish-Ukrainian border, as well as on the entire eastern flank of NATO.
“The incident in Poland, with all its relevance, puts on the agenda the speedy implementation of the principle approved in the declaration of the NATO summit in Madrid, on the creation of an air defense system on the eastern flank of the alliance,” said Nauseda (quote according to TASS).
According to the Lithuanian leader, he spoke with Polish President Andrzej Duda about what happened. Nauseda stressed that Lithuania will support the installation of air defense systems on the border between Poland and Ukraine.
On November 15, Polish media reported that two rockets had landed in the country, killing two people. Against the backdrop of these events, the Polish authorities called an urgent meeting of the national security committee. The Polish Foreign Ministry said it said the weapons were supposedly Russian. In this regard, the Russian ambassador to the republic, Sergei Andreev, was summoned to the ministry.
At the same time, the Pentagon could not confirm whether Russian shells really fell on the territory of Poland. The US Department of Defense noted that they do not have such data. In the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation declaredthat Russia did not strike near the Ukrainian-Polish border. The incident was described by the department as a “deliberate provocation.”
Later Associated Press citing three US officials reportedthat the missile that fell in Poland belongs to Kyiv, the Ukrainian military allegedly tried to shoot down the Russian missile.
