More than one hundred thousand Russian citizens remained in Georgia after the announcement of partial mobilization in Russia. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili told about this in an interview with France Inter radio station. According to the head of state, mostly young people and representatives of the middle class are among the resettled.
According to Zurabishvili, about 700,000 Russians have crossed the Russian-Georgian border since September 21, 600,000 of them later went to Armenia, Turkey or the EU countries.
Earlier, Reuters reported on an unexpected economic boom associated with a large number of Russians who arrived. Due to the growth in consumption in the country, GDP growth by 10% is expected by the end of the year. At the same time, Georgian financiers are worried about the long-term negative effects of the conflict in Ukraine and what will happen to the country’s economy after the Russians return home.
