The President instructed to think about the localization of cars for taxis and car sharing

The Government of the Russian Federation will prepare a report on the development and application of requirements for the localization of the production of cars used in taxi and car sharing services. Such an order, President Vladimir Putin gave Cabinet following the meeting of the Presidium of the State Council.

The government must prepare the report by August 1, 2023.

It follows from the presidential order that the issue of developing requirements for the localization of the production of cars for taxis and carsharing should be studied taking into account the capabilities of the domestic automotive industry. If necessary, the necessary changes must be made to the legislation.

In December 2022, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko statedthat companies that work in the taxi industry should buy cars from domestic manufacturers, thereby supporting them. Matvienko clarified that she supports the amendment, which would allow the Cabinet of Ministers to establish requirements for the level of localization in the territory of the Russian Federation of the production of cars that are used as taxis. This initiative was not included in the final version of the Taxi Regulation Act.
