Pope Francis is in favor of starting negotiations on a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible, said Leonid Sevastyanov, chairman of the World Union of Old Believers, who maintains correspondence with the pontiff.
The RIA Novosti material cites Sevostyanov’s words that Pope Francis considers this option the best for all parties, and there are no and cannot be other options, with the exception of dialogue.
The pontiff is also sure that negotiations will start anyway, but the later this happens, the more human losses and destruction will be.
Previously, the Pope has repeatedly stated about the concern in the world because of Ukraine and the diplomatic steps of the Vatican. He also talked about the possibility of visiting Moscow and Kyiv.
