The military department promptly named the cause of the explosion in Belgorod. Late on Thursday evening, it reported an abnormal descent of ammunition from a Su-34 bomber. An investigation is underway. A former military pilot spoke to MK on condition of anonymity about how this case will be investigated.
– The investigation is already underway, – said the interlocutor of “MK”. – As soon as the plane landed at its airfield, specialists began to work with its on-board equipment. That’s how it’s supposed to be. In such cases, the readings of all flight recorders are taken, which record dozens of parameters from the moment the engines are turned on before takeoff. Now it is necessary to fully decrypt the record of the “black boxes” in order to establish what caused the failure.
According to the interlocutor of “MK”, one of the important indicators is the overload with which the aircraft performed maneuvers during a sortie. It is possible that at some stage of the flight the overload could be near the limit. It depends on the speed of the aircraft and on how the piloting was performed.
– In addition, it will be checked how the crew (and on the Su-34 bomber, this is the pilot and navigator, who sit almost side by side) maintained the given flight route. To do this, they will additionally request data from ground-based electronic control equipment, the pilot said.
He noted that the flight recorders also record the operation of electronics, including the operation of electrical circuits through which the command to drop the ammunition must pass.
– By the way, not only the actions of the crew in flight are being checked, but also how the bomber was preparing to take off, – said the interlocutor of MK. – All operations during the suspension of ammunition before departure are carried out under triple control and are carefully recorded. I think, taking into account all the necessary checks, it will take several days to investigate the Belgorod emergency in order to get an accurate picture of what happened. At the same time, the conclusions are unlikely to be brought to general information. But the lessons will be learned and will definitely be brought to the attention of all front-line aviation specialists in order to avoid a repetition of what happened in the future.
