Since the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and wounded. This was stated by the Chairman of the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Mark Milley.
“They paid a high price for the loss of thousands, tens of thousands [человек] killed and wounded,” Milli said at a press conference at the US Ramstein base in Germany (quote according to TASS).
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Its goals, Russian President Vladimir Putin, outlined the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine.
On July 3, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the release of the LPR. He added that the DPR is currently being released according to plan. In addition, the entire Kherson region is under the control of the Russian military. Most of the Zaporozhye region, as well as several districts of the Kharkiv region, are also controlled by Russia.
At the same time, since the end of August, the armed forces of Ukraine have launched an attempted counteroffensive in Mykolaiv and Kherson regions in three directions. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation confirmed the information and stated that Russian troops repelled the attack.
The department also reported heavy losses of the enemy. According to the Ministry of Defense, more than 1,200 Ukrainian servicemen were killed as a result of an attempted counteroffensive. On September 5, the department announced the death of another 220 Ukrainian soldiers near Nikolaev.
