US authorities have confirmed that the Ukrainian military will receive ground-launched small diameter bombs (GLSDB). At the same time, Washington did not disclose the timing of the supply of these weapons to Kyiv.
“As for small diameter bombs, we talked about this last year. Ukraine will receive GLSDB as part of our program, which is funded by the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI),” said Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder.
He added that for reasons of operational security, the Pentagon will not confirm specific timing for the transfer of these weapons.
“We will leave the Ukrainian leadership the right to report any deliveries,” he added.
Unlike traditional artillery weapons, the GLSDB allows 360-degree coverage for high and low angles of attack, circling terrain to engage targets in mountains or returning to a target behind an undocked launch vehicle. The GLSDB has a range of 150 km or can hit targets 70 km away from the direction of the shot.
