“One country, which I will not name, had Harpoons installed on the ship … We worked with this country and the contractor, removed the missiles from the ship, placed them on trucks with platforms. “The Harpoon modules were mounted on a flatbed truck and a power source on another flatbed truck, and they were connected by a cable,” a Pentagon spokesman said.
The Ukrainian military received the necessary training to use these missiles in the United States in May, he said. At the same time, at the end of May, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, publicly thanked the Danish authorities for the transfer of the Harpoon installation and missiles to Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it needs the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS MLRS. However, the American authorities were in no hurry to provide the Ukrainian authorities with such weapons. In May, US President Joe Biden ruled out transferring missile systems to Ukraine that could reach Russian territory.
As a result, the deliveries of the HIMARS MLRS to Ukraine nevertheless took place, but the United States provided them with shells of such a range that they cannot threaten the territory of Russia.
At the same time, Western countries continue to provide large-scale military assistance to Ukraine. So, in August, the United States announced three new military aid packages at once: for $1 billion, $775 million, and almost $3 billion.
