Ukraine needs from the West not 24 fighters, but about 180, said Yury Ignat, spokesman for the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He also stated that he did not tell the Spanish newspaper El Pais that Ukraine wanted to receive 24 fighter jets from the West and explained the appearance of such information as “difficulties in translation.” In his opinion, the journalists mistranslated his words.
“There were no such statements from me, and such things have a very negative effect, because information is very sensitive and partners do not like it when something wishful thinking is presented,” he said on the air of the telethon.
At the same time, Ignat added that Ukraine does not need 24 fighters, but about 180.
“We do not need 24 aircraft, but at least five full-fledged brigades, and each brigade has three squadrons. This will be the number of aircraft that can really protect the airspace together with air defense for Ukraine,” Ignat said.
