In the first half of 2023, the number of detected Russian-language pages with pirated films and series decreased by more than 10% and amounted to 44,558, experts calculated FACCT (formerly Group-IB). For the same period in 2022, 49,689 sites with pirated content were discovered.
As the reason for the reduction in pirate resources, FACCT experts pointed to the successful blocking of pirate sites, problems with domestic pirates with foreign hosting, as well as the withdrawal of shadow sponsors of piracy from Russia.

In March 2022, the film companies Universal Pictures, Warner Bros., Disney, Sony and Paramount announced a temporary suspension of the distribution of their films in Russia. However, the departure of Western majors did not worsen the financial performance of Russian online cinemas. Experts admit that the improvement in the financial performance of video platforms was facilitated by cutting costs, in particular, the rejection of inefficient transactions for the release of original content.
