The number of millionaire bankers has grown by more than 40% in the EU

The number of bankers earning more than €1 million per year increased by 41.5% in the EU in 2021, according to report European Banking Authority (EBA). If in 2020 there were 1,383 such people, then in 2021 – 1,957. This is a record figure for the entire time of keeping statistics, that is, since 2010, if you do not take into account data from the UK.
The EBA attributes the rise in the number of millionaire bankers to a strong 2021 for the banking sector, as well as a post-Brexit exodus of high-wage workers from the UK and the EU.
The regulator also said that 70% of the increase in the number of millionaire bankers came from just three countries – Italy, France and Spain. And the largest number of bankers who earned more than €1 million fell on Germany – 30%. At the same time, the highest paid banker works in Spain. He managed to earn €14-15 million in 2021. This is at least 466 times the average salary in Spain, notes the EBA. Three more bankers – one each from Germany, Spain and France – managed to earn around €13-14 million. The names of all these bankers were not disclosed.
