France expelled more than 4.5 thousand foreigners in 2023
France last year, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, expelled 4,686 foreigners who committed offenses. Meanwhile, the newspaper Le Figaro indicates that this figure is 30% higher than the corresponding figure for 2022.
In 2022, the French authorities expelled 3,615 foreign offenders, and in 2021, twice as many – 1.8 thousand.
The vast majority of those expelled are men. The main destinations for deportation are sub-Saharan Africa, the Maghreb, and central Europe.
Two weeks ago, the country passed an immigration law to ease removal procedures.
The head of the French Interior Ministry, Gérald Darmanin, held a meeting of prefects in Paris today, at which he “welcomed this first result,” calling for “to speed up this work, in particular with the help of the immigration law, as soon as it is published.” The Constitutional Council must weigh in on the text of the new law before publication.
