In 2023, the number of employees in the delivery sector exceeded 1 million people, the Russian Association for Electronic Communications (RAEC) said. According to her, every sixth Russian had experience as a courier.

RAEC refers to the statistics of market players, including Avito, Samokat and Zarplata.ru. The results of the study lead Vedomosti.

As specified in the association, 38% of couriers combine work with study, 16% – with other work. In 2022, the Russian courier delivery market grew by 24.5%, reaching RUB 1.7 trillion. 47% of online sales came from marketplace sales, and delivery from supermarkets grew by 66% year-on-year.

According to the association, more than 1,700 companies operate on the delivery market in Russia. However, a third of them provide services only in Moscow, and half – in the capital and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, the Novosibirsk region and Yekaterinburg.

The growth in demand for couriers began in 2020 against the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic. Then it was predicted that by 2024 almost 450 thousand people in Russia would work as couriers, but in the end the demand turned out to be higher, the RAEC study says.

According to Avito Rabota, there is now an increase in demand for the search for employees in areas related to manual labor. In particular, the demand for millers, packers, turners and couriers, as well as sales managers and cashiers over 45, has quadrupled.
