Nobel Foundation informed about the withdrawal of invitations to the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus and Iran to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm due to the “strong reaction” of the public.

“The decision of the Nobel Foundation to invite all ambassadors to the Nobel Prize ceremony … caused a strong reaction … The Foundation Board decided to repeat last year’s exception to the usual practice – that is, not to invite the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus and Iran to the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm”, the fund said in a statement.

The fact that the ambassadors of Russia, Belarus and Iran were invited to the ceremony became known yesterday, September 1st. The executive director of the Nobel Foundation, Vidar Helgesen, explained this decision by saying that the foundation is trying to resist the division of the world into areas, “where the dialogue between people with different views is reduced.” In 2022, the ambassadors of these countries were not invited due to a special operation in Ukraine.

The 2023 Nobel Prize winners will be announced in early October, with a festive awards ceremony taking place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
