The New York Times reports that US intelligence is studying four possible scenarios for the development of hostilities in Ukraine. These scenarios were derived from a possible leak of classified Pentagon documents, which is being investigated by the US Department of Justice.
According to the document, intelligence is considering the scenario of the death of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the death of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, as well as a change in the leadership of the Russian army and a possible “Ukraine strike on the Kremlin.” However, the document does not contain an assessment of the likelihood of each of the scenarios and their possible impact on the course of the conflict.
The publication notes that Washington is most concerned about the latter scenario, as it could lead to an escalation by Russia and even the use of tactical nuclear weapons. Intelligence also believes that this strike could lead to the need for negotiations and the end of the military confrontation.
