The new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation will include trade restrictions for 11 billion euros

The tenth package of sanctions against Russia being developed by the European Union contains trade restrictions for 11 billion euros, said the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, on her Twitter.

“We are weakening Russia’s ability to maintain its war machine. Our tenth package of sanctions contains trade bans and controls on technology exports worth 11 billion euros,” she said.

In addition, during her speech at the plenary session of the European Parliament, von der Leyen reiterated that Russia is using Iranian drones in a special operation in Ukraine. Therefore, the EC proposes, she stressed, for the first time to impose sanctions against Iranian organizations, including those associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, transmits Reuters.

As Bloomberg found out earlier, the draft of the tenth package of sanctions against Russia also entered sanctions against Alfa BankRosbank, “Tinkoff bank” and the National Welfare Fund. The restrictions could also include media companies that “engage in propaganda” in support of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, a Russian oil-exporting vessel reinsurer and a UK-registered shipping company. In addition, as part of a new package of sanctions, the EU wants to force European banks to report on the assets of the Central Bank. Sanctions could be introduced as early as next week.

February 13 edition of Politico also reported on EU plans to impose sanctions against four Russian banks, including Alfa Bank. It was alleged that Russia Today journalists, as well as companies and individuals associated with the Wagner PMC, would be subject to restrictions. In total, about 130 individuals and organizations may be on the “black list”.

On February 2, the European Parliament adopted a resolution in which it called on the EU countries “as soon as possible” to adopt the tenth package of sanctions against Russia. In addition, the European Parliament proposed imposing sanctions against Lukoil and Rosatom, as well as abandoning not only Russian oil and gas, but also uranium.
