The National Bank of Kazakhstan decided to keep the base rate at 16.75%. Annual inflation in Kazakhstan in January 2023 amounted to 20.7% against 20.3% in 2022. About it informed press service of the regulator.
The main contribution to inflation was made by the rise in food prices, follows from the message of the regulator. Monthly inflation continued to slow down for the fourth month in a row to 1.1%, but still exceeds the historical average.
The National Bank added that inflation expectations fell after the December peaks. At the same time, they still remained high, the trend for their decline has not yet been formed. The regulator explained that this prevents a rapid slowdown in inflation.
