The name of Boris Akunin disappeared from the posters of his performances at the RAMT

From the website of the Moscow Russian Youth Academic Theater (RAMT), where there are four performances of the writer and playwright Boris Akunin, his name has disappeared from the posters of the events. Mr. Akunin said that the artistic director of the theater explained the situation as pressure from the authorities, who demanded that the writer’s name be removed from the posters.

“Recently, the artistic director of the theater called me and, very worried, said that the “laundry” (Alexei Vladimirovich did not use this word, he is an intelligent person) demands that my name be removed,” the writer explained in his Telegram channel.

He noted that he does not condemn the policy of the theater and is aware of its dependence on the actions of the Russian leadership. “Russian viewers are also dear to me. That is why I do not demand that my nameless performances be removed from the repertoire. Until they are finally banned, let them go. Even for free,” added Boris Akunin.

Earlier today, 21 October, at Telegram channel “Bloody mistress” Ksenia Sobchak reported that in the Moscow House of Books, employees were forbidden to put in a prominent place the works of authors who publicly criticized the current Russian government and its policy towards Ukraine. The black list of writers included Boris Akunin, Mikhail Zygar, Evgeny Ponasenkov (recognized as a foreign agent) and other authors.

Boris Akunin has been publicly criticizing the Russian authorities and, in particular, Russian President Vladimir Putin since the mid-2000s. He was one of the informal leaders the first stage of the protest movement in Russia in 2011-2012, in 2022 condemned the entry of Russian troops into the territory of Ukraine.
