The Moscow City Electoral Committee refused to register seven out of 12 applicants for the post of mayor of Moscow, because they did not provide the necessary package of documents on time. This decision was taken at a meeting of the commission on July 14, informs Interfax.
From the published decisions of the commission on registration it follows that the current mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin (from United Russia), vice-speakers of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov (from the Liberal Democratic Party) and Vladislav Davankov (from New People), State Duma deputy, will participate in the elections, head of the Moscow branch of A Just Russia – Patriots – For Truth Dmitry Gusev and Moscow City Duma deputy, grandson of the Communist Party leader Leonid Zyuganov.
The remaining seven candidates <...> nominated, but they did not submit the necessary for their registration as candidates for the post of mayor of Moscow within the period established by law until 18:00 on July 7, ”said Dmitry Reut, deputy chairman of the commission, at the meeting.
In particular, the Moscow City Electoral Committee did not register six self-nominated candidates, including Zhanna Gorbacheva, who had previously withdrawn her candidacy herself, as well as Russian cosmonaut Sergei Zaletin, nominated by the Party of the Renaissance of Russia.
This year, elections for the post of mayor of Moscow will be held, voting will last from 8 to 10 September. The current mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, took office in October 2010 by presidential decree. Since then, he has been re-elected twice as a self-nominated candidate, and this year he ran for mayor for the first time, running for United Russia.
