On June 9, the Moscow city branch of the United Russia party will hold a conference to present the party’s candidate. As Kommersant previously wrote, it will be the current mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The Kremlin said that Russian President Vladimir Putin would support his candidacy.
Mr. Sobyanin’s opponent from the Communist Party will be the party leader’s grandson, Moscow City Duma deputy Leonid Zyuganov. The Liberal Democratic Party spoke of its readiness to nominate 31-year-old vice-speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov for mayor. “New People” will nominate the candidacy of the Vice-Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov.
