The current mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, may nominate his candidacy for a new term due to changes in federal legislation, said the chairman of the Moscow City Duma, Alexei Shaposhnikov.
“After the change in federal legislation, Sergei Semenovich has the right to be nominated,” Shaposhnikov said, answering the relevant question (quote according to TASS).
At the end of October, Russian President Vladimir Putin notedthat the current mayor of the capital has done a lot to create comfortable conditions for residents and guests of Moscow. According to him, there was a period in the history of the capital when there were growing problems with transport, with the development of social infrastructures. They still partly appear, but the mayor of the capital managed to do a lot to stop these threats, the head of state stressed.
In 2010, Sobyanin, on the proposal of the then President Dmitry Medvedev, was approved as mayor of Moscow by voting in the Moscow City Duma, in 2013 he was elected to this position in early elections, receiving 51.37% of the vote in the first round. In 2018, he was re-elected for a third term in the next elections, gaining 70.17% of the vote.
