The Russian Ambassador in Chisinau Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova after information appeared that polling stations for voting in the Russian presidential elections could be opened in the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic.

The Moldovan Foreign Ministry reported in its Telegram channel that “the Russian diplomat will be informed of disagreement with the decision to open polling stations in the Transnistrian region of Moldova.”

Earlier it was reported that in Moldova they are going to open only one polling station for voting in the presidential elections in the Russian Federation. It will be located in Chisinau – despite the fact that more than 200 thousand people with Russian passports live in Transnistria alone. Moldavian Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi recalled the ban on voting anywhere other than this polling station.

Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova and leader of the ruling Action and Solidarity party (PAS) Igor Grosu argued that the opening of polling stations for voting in the presidential elections of the Russian Federation on the left bank of the Dniester River is unlawful and illegal. The politician also noted that Moldova is studying the possibility of introducing restrictive measures in this matter.
