The Ministry of Labor reported that artificial intelligence is squeezing professions out of the market

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already replacing a number of professions, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov announced at SPIEF 2023. In the department itself, according to him, the need for pension calculators has already disappeared, and robots have begun to replace couriers.

“Artificial intelligence is gradually squeezing out the physical presence of a person from certain professions, from certain areas. As an example, I can say: our global transition over the past three years to the analysis of big data in comparison of state information systems. We have come to the point that almost now we can automatically assign a pension. That’s all, that is, we don’t need pension calculators when digitizing all the data,” Kotyakov said.

At the same time, the demand for external care increases, when “you need to come home, help a person take medication, clean the apartment, and carry out hygiene procedures,” he added. The ministry directs the freed personnel to the solution of these tasks. However, the department believes that robots will help with this functionality in the future. Technology will ensure, at a minimum, the movement of the elderly and the disabled. Delivery without couriers already exists in big cities, Kotyakov noted. The development trend of AI, taking into account the situation, must be included in the forecasts for the labor market – digitalization is able to cover part of the deficit in the labor market, the minister believes.

Earlier on SPIEF Chairman of the Board of Sberbank German Gref suggested using artificial intelligence (AI) to make some decisions on public administration issues, since this technology is objective and does not take bribes.

In April, the recruiting service Rabota.ru presented the results of a thematic survey. According to them, almost half of the surveyed companies (47%) believe that with the spread of neural networks, some professions will disappear over time.

In November 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for the massive introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in all industries in the current decade. He clarified that AI should also be used in government bodies, both federal and regional. In this regard, Putin instructed the government to implement the transition of the entire system of state power to a data-based management model using a platform approach.

A number of Russian departments have previously either allowed the use of AI in their work, or reported that they are already using this technology. In June last year, the Ministry of Justice noted that it began testing AI when registering legal acts of departments. In April of this year, the use of AI in the work on the budget was allowed in the Ministry of Finance. In June, Elvira Nabiullina, head of the Bank of Russia, also spoke about the great potential of the technology for the financial market.
