The Ministry of Labor expects an increase in unemployment in Russia by autumn

Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Russia Elena Mukhtiyarova said that now the unemployment rate is at a historic low. However, unemployment is likely to rise in autumn.

“Our main task is to maintain stability in the labor market as long as we succeed. In our country, unemployment is now at a historically low level of 3.9%. This has never happened in the recent history of the Russian Federation. But we understand that in the fall, most likely, there will be an increase. This is connected both with seasonal parameters and with a behavioral factor,” said Ms. Elena Mukhtiyarova at the videoconferencing with the regions on the site of the United Russia party (quote from TASS).

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Tatyana Golikova announced today, August 19, that the number of officially registered unemployed from July 25 to August 15 in Russia decreased by more than 6 thousand people, to 675 thousand. Their number does not exceed 0.9% of the total number of employees in Russia. The number of citizens working part-time or working week increased from 130.6 thousand to 142.7 thousand people from July 25 to August 15, and the number of idle workers increased from 105.4 thousand to 106.4 thousand people.

Previously at the Ministry of Labor declaredthat the unemployment rate at the end of 2022 will be comparable to the results of 2021. By data Rosstat, following the results of May, the minimum unemployment rate of 3.9% was recorded in Russia. The Ministry of Economic Development reported that unemployment would begin to rise in autumn, when many international companies complete the process of leaving the Russian market.
