The Ministry of Justice of Russia has included in the register of undesirable organizations BDR Novaja Gazeta-Europe – Novaya Gazeta Europe, registered in Latvia. About it reported in the department’s press office.
The Ministry of Justice explained that the organization was included in the list of undesirables based on the decision of the First Deputy Prosecutor General in accordance with parts 1, 4 and 7 of Art. 3.1 of the law “On measures of influence on persons involved in violations of fundamental human rights and freedoms.”
June 28 at the Prosecutor General’s Office reportedthat the department recognized the activities of BDR Novaja Gazeta-Europe – Novaya Gazeta Europe as undesirable, explaining that the organization was founded by a Latvian journalist with Russian citizenship Kirill Martynov, who is recognized as a foreign agent in Russia.
The Prosecutor General’s Office accused the publication of publishing “false information about allegedly massive violations of rights” in Russia and distributing materials from extremist and undesirable organizations on the territory of the Russian Federation. The department considered that the activity of the newspaper “poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order” and the security of the state.
In addition, the department noted that former members of the editorial board of the Russian Novaya Gazeta, which the Basmanny District Court had previously deprived of its registration certificate as a media outlet due to violations of the law, are participating in the work of Novaya Gazeta Europe.
