Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valeriy Zaluzhny has been put on the wanted list in the Russian Federation, follows from the database of the Russian Interior Ministry.
The military leader is wanted under a criminal article, the card says. It is not clear which article is in question.
December 30, 2022 Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation aroused criminal case against Zaluzhny and other representatives of the military leadership of Ukraine under Part 1 of Art. 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (cruel treatment of prisoners of war or civilians). The maximum penalty under the article is up to 20 years in prison.
According to investigators, during the organization of humanitarian corridors in Mariupol by the Russian military, the soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine “artificially created obstacles to the evacuation of the civilian population from the city.” As a result, civilians became a “target” for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which “killed them with various types of weapons,” the UK added.
According to the agency, after the complete transfer of Mariupol under Russian control, the bodies of more than 3,000 civilians were found in the city. The damage from the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which used the city and its civilian infrastructure for military purposes, amounted to more than 176 billion rubles.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. On April 21 of the same year, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the complete capture of Mariupol by the Russian military. At the end of May, he announced the completion of the operation and the complete liberation of the territory of Azovstal, where Ukrainian soldiers remained.
Mariupol is located in the DPR. On September 30, 2022, the DPR, along with the LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, became part of Russia. Martial law has been introduced in the regions since October 19.
