The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed extending fertilizer export quotas until May 2024

The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposed introducing quotas for the export of nitrogen and complex fertilizers from the Russian Federation for the period from December 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 in the amount of 16.95 million tons, it follows from project government resolution drawn up by the ministry.
It follows from the document that the quota for the export of nitrogen fertilizers (urea, urea-ammonium mixture, ammonium nitrate) will be 9.8 million tons, complex fertilizers – 7.1 million tons.
Fertilizer export quotas are currently in effect valid until November 30th. The total volume of the quota is more than 16.3 million tons. The government said that this decision is “aimed at maintaining sufficient volumes of fertilizers in the domestic market.” The distribution of volumes between exporters is handled by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Quotas were set in December 2022. The authorities hoped that this measure would allow mineral fertilizer producers to export unclaimed leftover finished products.
