According to the agency, this could lead to higher prices in stores, as companies will have to recalculate the volume and weight of goods. In this regard, the display of goods and the preparation of price tags will increase in price. In addition, the department noted that this process should be automated, which will lead to additional costs.

In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized that the bill cannot be extended to such categories of goods as tea, coffee, chips, etc. This is due to the perception of consumers who are used to seeing the cost of such goods for packaging. The obligation to indicate the cost of sweets or tea per 1 kg or liter will lead to “complication of the perception of the cost of such goods.” A similar position was taken by Rospotrebnadzor. They noted that the document needs to be finalized.

The bill was submitted to the State Duma in early June. Its author is Vice Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov. According to him, it is designed to protect consumers from situations where the manufacturer reduces the volume of production, but at the same time leaves the price the same. In a commentary to Izvestia, he noted that an amendment would be introduced by the second reading of the bill, which would allow the government to approve a list of goods with a mandatory “fair price tag.”
