The Ministry of Industry and Trade decided not to introduce state regulation of marketplaces in Russia yet

Marketplace market participants agreed to sign a code of good practices and created a working group, said Viktor Evtukhov, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation. In this regard, state regulation of marketplaces is not yet necessary, he told reporters.

If a balance between product suppliers and the marketplaces themselves was not achieved, then the state would take advantage of its regulatory capabilities. “But it’s still premature. The balance has been found by the market participants themselves,” said Mr. Yevtukhov (quote from Interfax).

Since now the state and the entire expert and business community will be able to observe how the voluntary obligations assumed in the marketplace market are being fulfilled, there is no need to introduce any kind of legal regulation, the deputy minister explained.

In mid-2022, marketplaces and their sellers Deal on compliance with a number of norms and standards, including the refusal to unilaterally change the conditions and mandatory participation in promotions. Ministry of Industry and Trade then began monitor compliance with agreements.

At the beginning of this year, it was not excluded that the authorities will return to the question of tightening regulation of e-commerce due to the growth of consumer complaints.
