The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over the accumulation of tankers off the coast of Turkey

Russia is concerned about the situation near the Bosphorus, where Russian oil tankers have accumulated. Such a statement did Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko in a conversation with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Primakov Readings.

“We are aware of this situation. Of course, it causes us concern from the point of view of the interests of our operators,” the diplomat said.

He clarified that the problem that has arisen is already being solved through transport and insurance companies, since they are in charge of ship insurance, and not the state. If the problem cannot be solved in this way, then the political level will have to be involved, Grushko added.

December 5 Financial Times informed about the resulting congestion from oil tankers off the coast of Turkey. On the same day, the price ceiling for Russian oil came into force. According to the newspaper, Ankara requested a new proof of insurance due to the restrictions imposed. However, the publication noted, Russian tankers can get access to Western insurers only if oil is sold at $60 per barrel or less.

The price ceiling was agreed by the EU countries on 3 December. The next day, the document was published in the Official Journal of the EU. In addition to the EU countries, the G7 countries and Australia also joined the ceiling.

In the Kremlin declaredthat Moscow will not accept the introduction of a price ceiling for Russian oil. According to the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, “preparations have already been made” for this decision. Prior to this, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that Russia will not supply energy to countries that join the price ceiling.

Earlier today, Vedomosti, citing sources close to the Cabinet, reported about discussing three scenarios to respond to the cap on Russian oil prices. In the Kremlin notedthat the Russian authorities are considering different options for retaliatory measures. The decision will be announced when it is made, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
