China supported the efforts of the Russian authorities to stabilize the country in connection with the events around the Wagner PMC, when its founder Yevgeny Prigozhin attempted an armed rebellion. About it informs press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

On June 25, Russian Deputy Minister Andrey Rudenko met with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang during a working trip to Beijing and held scheduled consultations with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu.

“The Chinese side expressed support for the efforts of the leadership of the Russian Federation to stabilize the situation in the country in connection with the events of June 24, and reaffirmed its interest in strengthening the cohesion and further prosperity of Russia,” the Russian ministry said in a statement.

The parties, as noted, also discussed issues of promoting bilateral cooperation and the implementation of the agreements of the heads of government reached during the visit of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to China at the end of May.

On the evening of June 23, Prigozhin announced a missile attack on one of the rear camps of a military company, blaming the Ministry of Defense for this. The military department said that reports of strikes are not true and are an “information provocation.” Then “Wagner” blockaded Rostov-on-Don and took control of the city’s military installations. The Investigation Department of the FSB of Russia opened a criminal case on the organization of an armed rebellion against Prigozhin.

On the evening of June 24, the Kremlin announced the agreements reached with Prigogine. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held talks with him, Prigozhin agreed to take measures to de-escalate the situation. In particular, the founder of the PMC announced the return of fighters and equipment to field camps. It was decided to close the criminal case against the businessman.
