The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine announced its desire to oust Russia from the world uranium market

Ukraine is working to increase uranium production, this will help oust Russia from the world market in this area, reports the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.
“Unfortunately, Russia still controls a significant part of the world uranium market. This slows down the issue of imposing sanctions, because many companies have contracts with the Russians for the supply of uranium. But we are working hard to push them out of this market, as well as to increase uranium production in Ukraine,” the ministry quotes the head of the department, German Galushchenko, on Facebook (owned by Meta – recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
The minister added that uranium production for Ukraine is “a component of national security.”
On September 10, Galushchenko reported receiving Ukrainian company Energoatom received the first batch of nuclear fuel from the American Westinghouse. “This is a big day for the Ukrainian energy sector, for our cooperation with the USA and Sweden, where the corresponding plant is located,” the minister said.
On August 23, British Energy Minister Grant Shapps during a visit to Kyiv announced on the allocation of 192 million pounds sterling ($245 million) to Ukraine for the purchase of nuclear fuel from manufacturers, including British companies.
In June, the Ukrainian edition of Forbes reported that by 2050 Ukraine plans to become “Europe’s energy hub” after more than $400 billion is invested in the country’s energy sector. At the same time, Ukrainian experts called this forecast divorced from reality.
