The Ministry of Economy of Germany did not find any contradictions in the purchase of Russian gas from Azerbaijan

Germany sees no contradictions in the plans of the European Union to buy gas from Azerbaijan, despite the fact that it may be of Russian origin, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the German Foreign Ministry said.
“At the moment we do not have any sanctions against Russian gas imports to the EU. We planned to become independent from Russian gas. And de facto we do not import Russian gas. But there are no sanctions against it in the EU, which cannot be said about coal and oil, ”said the representative of the German Foreign Ministry (quote according to RIA Novosti).
The representative of the Ministry of Economy, in turn, stressed that Russian gas is not supplied to Germany through pipelines. At the same time, as he noted, it cannot be ruled out that the energy carrier from Azerbaijan may be of Russian origin.
At the end of October, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the country had freed itself from dependence on Russian gas. German Vice Chancellor Robert Habek noted that Germany plans to become independent of Russian energy sources by 2024. According to him, Germany is getting rid of dependence on Russian energy carriers with “lightning speed”.
The energy crisis in Western countries is caused by a reduction in Russian energy supplies to Europe, as well as sanctions against the Russian Federation in the energy sector. EU authorities have repeatedly recognized that Europe is in for a difficult winter. At the same time, they do not plan to lift sanctions, explaining the problems that have arisen as the “price for independence” of Europe from Russia and its energy resources.
