The icon with the image of the “Savior Not Made by Hands” was brought to the advanced positions of the “West” grouping of troops. The Ministry of Defense in its Telegram channel showed footage of the communion ritual with its use.
It was held by the priest Andrey Grishaenkov. He recalled that every serviceman from the NVO zone will be able to take communion. At the same time, the clergyman said that the icon, as a symbol of unity and faith, would visit all positions of the group of troops.
The icon “Savior Not Made by Hands” is a canonical image of the face of Jesus Christ. According to legend, he was miraculously imprinted on the ubrus – a handkerchief with which Christ wiped his face. The face of the “Savior Not Made by Hands” was depicted on the banners of the Russian troops at different times, and the image itself was placed above the gates of the fortresses.
Vladimir Putin presented the icon “Savior Not Made by Hands” to the military during a visit to the headquarters of the Dnepr group of troops. Previously, it belonged to Peter Vanovsky. He is called one of the most successful defense ministers in the history of the Russian Empire.
