Russian air defense systems shot down two Ukrainian aircraft-type drones in the sky over the Belgorod and Oryol regions, reported Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The attack was stopped at about 21:00 Moscow time, the devices were used to carry out a terrorist attack.
“Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed by air defense systems over the Belgorod and Oryol regions,” the message says.
Governor of the Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov, in turn, reportedthat the aircraft was shot down on approach to Shebekino; according to preliminary data, there were no casualties or damage.
This is the third attempt to attack the Belgorod region with drones in a day. Previously, the drones were intercepted around 13:00 and 16:00 Moscow time.
On the evening of September 18, the air defense system shot down three air targets in the Shebekinsky urban district of the Belgorod region. Gladkov said that according to preliminary data, no one was injured. Power lines were damaged.
Belgorod and other border regions are regularly subjected to shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Since October 19, 2022, by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, an average level of response has been established in the regions. A high (“yellow”) level of terrorist threat remains in effect in the regions indefinitely.
