The Iskander missile system has been developed since the late 1980s. and was adopted by the Russian forces in 2006. It is designed to destroy ground targets, including air defense and missile defense systems, command posts and communications centers, concentrations of troops and equipment, warships, etc. Iskanders can hit objects at a distance of up to 500 km. The developer is the Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering (part of the structure of Rostec) in Kolomna.
