The Ministry of Defense promised to comply with the restrictions of the nuclear missile treaty

Russia will continue to exchange notifications with the United States and will comply with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) restrictions on the number of nuclear warhead carriers. This was announced by Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Russian Defense Ministry, Major General Yevgeny Ilyin.

“The process of exchanging notifications within the framework of the 1988 agreements between the Soviet Union and the United States of America has also been established, it exists and will be implemented in full. From the point of view of fulfilling the obligations of this agreement, the measures are aimed at preventing false positives, which is important for maintaining strategic stability,” said Ilyin (quote according to RIA Novosti).

After the decision announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin to suspend participation in the treaty on February 21, the Foreign Ministry also declaredthat the Russian Federation intends to comply with quantitative restrictions on media.

The department said that the decision of the Russian authorities is reversible, but for this, “Washington must show political will, make conscientious efforts for a general de-escalation and create conditions for the resumption of the full functioning of the treaty.”

Formerly Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov declaredthat there is a chance for the resumption of START III (an alternative name for the treaty) in its previous form, but this depends “entirely and completely on the behavior of the United States, on awareness or unawareness of the pernicious course that they are pursuing in the Russian direction.”
